Nerve paralysis can also cause foot drop, which over time damages the feet and makes walking very difficult. If caught in time, corrective foot surgery enables patients to retain their mobility and independence.

When Rhitik developed a bad ulcer on his big toe, his symptoms were not immediately recognised. After many hospital visits and weeks off school, he was finally diagnosed with leprosy and started on Multidrug Therapy. Unfortunately, by the time he arrived at The Leprosy Mission’s Anandaban Hospital, the bone had become infected, and surgeons had to cut off his big toe to prevent the infection spreading.
Today, 13-year-old Rhitik is very happy to be cured of leprosy and dreaming of becoming a scientist, an engineer or maybe a doctor when he grows up, depending which day you ask him! This compassionate gift will help another patient like Rhitik to walk again and live life to the full.
