Rani was diagnosed with leprosy when white patches appeared on her hands and legs. Sadly, the other children in her school bullied her and talked about her behind her back, so Rani completely refused to go to school, and her mother could not change her mind on this. To make matters even worse, her father walked out on the family because he did not want to be associated with leprosy. It was a difficult, miserable time for the family.

Happily, Rani’s symptoms were caught early. She was able to complete a course of Multi-Drug Therapy and is now cured of leprosy with no long-term ill effects. A team visited her school to run a leprosy awareness programme and made a point of speaking to Rani’s class. This changed everything and she was welcomed back to school by her friends. She loves playing netball again and sitting next to her best friend in class.
