pillala's story
This compassionate gift will help someone like 60-year-old Pillala who was diagnosed with leprosy over 30 years ago. It all started with a patch on her right thigh that had lost all feeling. She visited various local hospitals, but it took a long time to get a correct diagnosis. Eventually, she went to a Leprosy Mission hospital where she was put on Multi-Drug Therapy.
Unfortunately, Pillala experienced painful leprosy reactions and ulcers which needed further treatment. This happens when the immune system reacts to leprosy residues in the body, even after the leprosy bacteria has been killed by antibiotics. Additional medicines are essential to help control the reaction so the patient can fully recover.
Today, Pillala lives with her eldest son and his family. She loves spending time with her grandchildren and enjoys playing with the eldest, 7-year-old Babloo, when he gets home from school.
