Sadly, students from leprosy-affected families don’t have the same opportunities that are offered to other young people. Many have had to drop out of school because of discrimination, or because they are undergoing treatment. Others are unable to attend school because their parents cannot afford their uniform and books.
The Leprosy Mission in India offers a range of government-recognised vocational courses. These courses provide leprosy-affected students with hands-on instruction, which leads to a diploma or certificate. This kind gift goes towards the fees for a computer studies course for 1 month.

Madhuri's Story
Madhuri felt totally overwhelmed when she was diagnosed with leprosy aged 21. Her family were supportive, but they were also scared of the stigma, so they kept her diagnosis a secret. Fortunately, she was able to enrol on the Computer Studies course at Champa Vocational Training Centre while still undergoing her leprosy treatment.
Madhuri loves learning new skills and she is impressed by the kind and supportive staff. A while ago, she watched the joyful graduation ceremony for the final year students and now she feels excited about her own future. She looks forward to completing the course and finding a good job close to home so she can provide for her loved ones.
