When the goat has kids, the first family to look after her keep one of the kids and then pass on the nanny and any other kids to new households. The first goat rotates around the group and each time new kids are born another family will be able to keep a goat. In this way, the initial gift of one goat eventually benefits many families. Chan Moni's Story
Chan Moni lives in the beautiful tea gardens of Bangladesh. She looks after her son who has both polio and leprosy. When a nanny goat was given to the self-help group they belong to, Chan Moni was the first person on the rota to look after it.
Later, when the goat had 2 kids, she was delighted to keep one of them. A livestock officer checks on the goats and helps the group learn about animal care. Goats provide nutritious milk and, as a bonus, they also produce great quality manure to help the crops grow!
