counselling changes lives
Sharmila (right) is a counsellor at Anandaban Hospital in Nepal. She really understands what the patients are going through because she developed leprosy while she was a student. Having been treated and cured, Sharmila trained as a counsellor and joined the hospital team a year ago.
Menuka (left) is an in-patient at the hospital who meets with Sharmila regularly. She desperately misses her 6-year-old daughter, Endisat. Since being diagnosed with leprosy, her husband refuses to have anything to do with her, so Endisat is being looked after by Menuka’s mum. Her counselling sessions are an essential part of her recovery, by building her resilience and helping her to stay positive.
