For many leprosy patients, injuries go unnoticed because they have lost sensation in their hands and feet. A simple cut or wound can develop into serious infection and reduced mobility. This is exactly what happened to Nagammal, who repeatedly injured herself without realising it. Years of wounds, ulcers and infections left her without fingers or toes, making everyday tasks difficult and walking unsafe and unsteady. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor many years, her husband looked after her, but eventually he could cope no longer and she was left to live alone in a broken-down goat shed. Some years later,when terrible floods hit Tamil Nadu, a Leprosy Mission field worker found Nagammal abandoned, hungry, shivering and suffering from ulcers infected by the dirty flood water.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt a Leprosy Mission Hospital she was given food, compassion and care.
